Tours and cruises added to cater for demand
8th April 2013
Grand UK Holidays has added more than a dozen new holidays to its range, to cater for growing demand from ‘gallivanting grandparents’.
The new escorted tours and cruises are in addition to the 40+ fresh tour options which were unveiled in its summer 2013 brochure.
Sales director Harold Burke said: “I was at the Best of Britain & Ireland (BoBI) annual trade show in Birmingham recently, and was impressed by the very positive outlook for the industry this year.
“It reflects our experience here at Grand UK where we are regularly adding new tours to our range because of the buoyant demand from the over-55s market.
“Our bookings also mirror the recent research by TravelSupermarket which shows that those aged 60-69 were the biggest spenders on holidays.
“They’re closely followed by those in their 50s, and those in their 70s – dubbed ‘gallivanting grandparents’ by TravelSupermarket!”
The new holidays are featured on www.grandukholidays.com and include ‘singles specials’ to Cardiff, the Cotswolds and Yorkshire; plus ‘Supersavers’ to Scotland, East coast, Northumberland, the North West, the Midlands and Yorkshire. Prices are from £209pp for five days.
There are also new cruises to see the fjords and an Austrian coach tour for solo travellers.
Harold said adding fresh holidays on the website means Grand UK can respond to booking trends and take advantage of good deals to pass onto customers.
“We are seeing growing demand for solos holidays, and people also like to bag a bargain, as they can get away on a whim without worrying about work – so we’ve added to our singles and supersavers ranges to cater for this,” he said.
He added: “The message from BoBI is that the domestic market is buoyant, thanks in part to events such as last year’s Olympics and Jubilee, and other factors, such as investment by VisitBritain and VisitEngland.
“And that is matched by our domestic range, which is going from strength to strength.
“Our best-selling tours for 2013 include ‘Royal Norfolk’, which combines the coastal splendours of the north Norfolk countryside with a visit to Sandringham; and ‘Leeds Castle’, which offers the majestic castle in Kent and vintage steam delights of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and the Kent & East Sussex Railway.
“One of the most popular additions to Grand UK’s range in recent years has been ‘Lark Rise to Downton Abbey’ escorted tour, which features Oxford – the backdrop to many popular TV dramas – and Lacock, famous for appearing in Cranford and Pride and Prejudice.”
