Grand UK Hotels adds 12th property to expanding portfolio
3rd October 2011
The UK Holiday Group has acquired a 12th property to its expanding Grand UK Hotels chain.
Its latest addition is Cliffdene Hotel, a 56-room property with a prime position on Newquay’s seafront.
The acquisition follows that of two hotels last year: Daunceys Hotel in Weston-super-Mare and the Nelson Hotel in Great Yarmouth. Further developments are in the pipeline.
Grand UK Hotels has been increasing its range of properties in popular British seaside resorts and scenic settings to cater for growing demand from its own sister brands and trade partners.
Its sister brands include over-55s operator Grand UK Holidays, coach tours specialist Glenton Holidays and groups operator just for groups!.
Harold Burke, sales director at The UK Holiday Group, said: “This hotel is in a premier location in Newquay, overlooking Tolcarne Beach.
“It has spectacular views and guests can walk to Newquay’s sandy beaches in just a few minutes.
“We can increase the range of tours we feature to Cornwall now that we have acquired this fine hotel.”
The property, which was completely refurbished in 2006, also boasts an entertainment venue and air-conditioned restaurant.
Other Newquay attractions are close to Cliffdene, including an amusement park, a local indoor pool, Newquay Zoo, a boating lake and Trenance Gardens.
The 24 members of staff at Cliffdene are being kept on by Grand UK Hotels.
The new hotel manager will be Bernie Korycki, who will move to Newquay from his role as general manager at Grand UK Hotels’ property in Great Yarmouth, the Nelson Hotel.
Grand UK Hotels has also appointed a new sales and marketing manager as it seeks to build on the success and growth of its portfolio.
Lynda Gotts-White joins the Norwich-based firm with nearly 15 years of travel trade experience in senior roles.
She has worked in aviation, for airlines KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Monarch Scheduled Airlines; in tour operations with Premier Holidays; and in retail travel at Thomas Cook Direct.
