Grand UK Holidays sees trend for top tours
14th January 2011
Tours by road and rail plus a trip down Memory Lane are among the best sellers so far for summer 2011 from Grand UK Holidays.
The over-55s specialist features a wide range of UK holidays based in its own Grand UK Hotels, as well as other properties in popular touring locations.
Among the most popular options is ‘We’ll Meet Again’, which is based in Hotel Richmond, a Grand UK property in Torquay.
This nostalgic trip down Memory Lane features ration books, music from the good old days, wartime quizzes and sing-alongs.
It costs £225 per person, for five days’ half-board accommodation, travel and excursions to Plymouth, Dartmoor and Slapton Sands, location of rehearsals for the D-Day landings.
The acquisition in 2010 of Grand UK Hotels’ 11th property – Hotel White Feather in Great Yarmouth – has enabled Grand UK Holidays to offer a wider range of tours in East Anglia.
New for 2011 and proving a hit are the ‘River & Railways of Rural Norfolk’ and ‘East Coast Safari’ touring holidays.
Both are based at the Hotel White Feather, which is on Marine Parade in Great Yarmouth.
The ‘Rivers & Railways’ tour includes a steam train trip on the Poppy Line to the resort of Sheringham, and visits to the Broads and Norwich (from £255pp).
The ‘East Coast Safari’ includes Banham Zoo, Southwold and the Africa Alive! animal park near Lowestoft (from £235pp).
They are among 50+ new tours in the summer 2011 brochure, with 30 of the fresh itineraries being for UK and Ireland breaks.
‘Great Western Holidays’ is another addition to the growing Holidays by Train section, with four or five days based in Torquay or Weston-super-Mare and travelling with First Great Western Railways, from £129pp.
Also selling well are holidays from The Friendship Club, a new range of options dedicated to solo travellers, from £205pp for five days (four nights), half-board.
