Grand UK Holidays in line for top industry awards
19th August 2011
A holiday firm from Norwich has been nominated for honours in three of the travel industry’s most prestigious awards ceremonies.
Grand UK Holidays has made the shortlist for two categories in the awards run by the Travel Trade Gazette (TTG), as well as categories in awards ceremonies held by Travel Bulletin and the British Travel Awards.
It has been shortlisted for the ‘Domestic Travel Supplier of the Year’ and ‘Rail, Road or Sea Operator of the Year’ prizes in the TTG Travel Awards, run by the industry’s leading trade magazine, Travel Trade Gazette.
Daniel Pearce, editor of TTG, said: “Faced with the ongoing economic uncertainty among consumers and some of the most challenging trading conditions for years, the UK’s best travel companies have really proven their worth.
“This year’s entries have been of an amazing quality - and our unique combination of voting by travel agents and judging by industry experts means that the eventual winners of the TTG Award will have truly earned their status. We congratulate all those who’ve made it onto our hotly-contested shortlist.”
Harold Burke, sales director at Grand UK Holidays, said: “The TTG Travel Awards are regarded as a universal benchmark of quality within the travel industry. We’re tremendously proud to have been shortlisted alongside such other strong entrants.”
Judges for the awards include experts from leading travel companies and trade bodies such as Thomas Cook, Sandals and the Institute of Travel and Tourism, as well as leading figures from the worlds of commerce and retail.
This year’s winners will be announced at a spectacular ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on September 22.
The two TTG nominations follow other awards successes for Grand UK Holidays, which specialises in holidays for the over-55s.
It is a finalist in the Travel Bulletin Star Awards 2011, in the ‘Star UK Holidays Supplier’ section.
The ceremony will take place September 12 at London's prestigious five-star Landmark Hotel.
Grand UK has also been named by the British Travel Awards as one of the shortlisted contenders for the ‘Best Coach Holiday Operator Award’.
Lorraine Barnes Burton, BTA’s chief executive, said: “The British Travel Awards are widely considered to be the “Oscars” of the travel industry.
“It’s the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward travel companies and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer.”
The winners of the 2011 British Travel Awards will be announced at a ceremony on 2 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
