Grand UK Holidays expects flurry of festive bookings
27th May 2014
Grand UK Holidays has added more than 30 new holidays to its winter brochure, being released now to cater for early festive demand.
The operator has already had several Christmas, New Year and Turkey & Tinsel breaks on sale as a new initiative within its summer 2014 brochure as many customers expressed a desire to book their festive treats well in advance.
And Grand UK anticipates another flurry of festive bookings when the new winter brochures reach customers and travel agents this week.
The operator’s optimism is reflected in a recent report by Barclays, which predicts the staycation trend will remain strong.
It forecasts that domestic tourists will contribute £108 billion to the UK economy by 2017, up by 25%, and the hospitality and leisure sector will benefit most from this trend.
Harold Burke, sales director, said: “Our festive range grows each year as more customers want to celebrate with fellow holidaymakers over the Yuletide season.
“We’ve seen a great deal of interest in the festive breaks recently as our loyal customers want to ensure they get the hotel and dates they want.
“And even though it’s the middle of summer when our brochure comes out, we still take plenty of festive bookings as soon as people see what’s on offer for Christmas and New Year!”
He added: “Many mature people enjoy getting away for Christmas, especially if they can’t be with friends or family.
“All our trips are fully escorted by tour managers and include activities and entertainment designed to appeal to an older age group.
“We do not charge single supplements on our mainland UK tours, so solo travellers are not penalised, and our luggage handling service is greatly appreciated too.
“Our brochure highlights the hotels with lots of single rooms as this is a key factor for many single travellers who enjoy mixing with like-minded people at Christmas.
“And coach tours are particularly popular at Christmas time as customers can enjoy a festive tipple without worrying about driving!”
The new options include Christmas escorted coach tours, New Year breaks, Turkey & Tinsel, Christmas markets, and themed holidays.
Ten new Christmas holidays have been added, featuring popular resorts such as Morecambe, Chester and Blackpool and scenic locations such as Somerset and Kent. They cost from £319 per person for five days.
Five fresh New Year options are also available, from £299 for four days (departing on 30 December).
Customers can also prolong the festivities by booking a ‘Festive Combo’ which is available at hotels offering both Christmas and New Year holidays.
For just £20 per person per night, customers can combine a Christmas holiday with a New Year break and party on into 2015.
As well as the extensive range of festive breaks, the new brochure also features autumn and spring holidays, with prices starting at £149pp for four days.
As themed holidays are increasingly popular, the operator has added breaks for fans of nostalgia, gardening, TV and film.
They include ‘Wartime on the Rails’ (£199pp for four days), which visits the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a World War II themed break, and the ‘Norfolk Steam & Dad’s Army Collection’ (£299pp for five days) which features the Dad’s Army Collection at Bressingham Steam Museum in Norfolk.
As well as the new tours, old favourites are featured, such as cards, dancing, bingo and bowling, and the annual reunion will take place again at the ever-popular Mill Rythe Holiday Village next February (£199pp for five days).
Harold added: “More than one million people have now travelled with Grand UK Holidays since it was founded back in 1984.
“We know we’re doing the right thing as so many of our customers return to book with us each year.
“And, with the over-55s being a growing demographic, we’re also seeing plenty of new holidaymakers too, and we expect to see lots of fresh faces joining us for our festive celebrations!”
